Willowglen Authors Contribute to Oil and Gas Pipelines Handbook

book

Oil and Gas Pipelines: Integrity and Safety Handbook

Willowglen Systems’ subject matter experts Doug Fisher, Michael VanderZee, Rumi Mohammad, and Gail Powley contributed a chapter on SCADA and RTU’s in the newly released Oil and Gas Pipelines: Integrity and Safety Handbook from Wiley Publications. The comprehensive handbook has a global authorship base and was edited by R. Winston Revie.

Overview

Oil and Gas Pipelines: Integrity and Safety Handbook presents a comprehensive and detailed reference guide on the integrity and safety of oil and gas pipelines, both onshore and offshore. The text includes:

  • A wide variety of topics, including design, pipe manufacture, pipeline welding, human factors, residual stresses, mechanical damage, fracture and corrosion, protection, inspection and monitoring, pipeline cleaning, direct assessment, repair, risk management, and abandonment
  • Links modern and vintage practices to help integrity engineers better understand their system and apply up-to-date technology to older infrastructure
  • Case histories with examples of solutions to complex problems related to pipeline integrity
  • Chapters on stress-based and strain-based design, the latter being a novel type of design that has only recently been investigated by designer firms and regulators
  • Information to help those who are responsible to establish procedures for ensuring pipeline integrity and safety

Press Release: Operational Certification for FlowMD’s Small Volume Prover

Willowglen Systems Unisen™ Flow Computer Receives Operational Certification for FlowMD’s Unidirectional Captive Displacement Provers

EDMONTON, Alberta, April 15, 2015 – Since 1971, Willowglen Systems has consistently delivered industry-leading technology for pipeline operators providing customers with the world-class reliability in custody transfer needed to effectively run their business. Continuing this commitment to innovation, Willowglen is pleased to announce the certification of its Unisen™ Flow Computer for operation with FlowMD’s Unidirectional Captive Displacement Prover. A technological leader in small volume provers, FlowMD creates world-class products that seamlessly integrate with flow computers supporting industry-standard API 4.6 double chronometry.

“Pairing the flexibility of the Unisen Flow Computer with FlowMD’s Unidirectional Captive Displacement Prover increases the speed of proving resulting in quantifiable cost-savings,” said John-Michael Carolan, Unisen Flow Computers Product Manager at Willowglen Systems. “In addition, as the prover does not employ a hydraulic system, this solution reduces the length of the maintenance cycle and maximizes its time in the field, increasing revenue for pipeline operators by decreasing losses through improved proving accuracy.”

“As FlowMD is the choice of Unidirectional Captive Displacement Provers in the market today, we appreciate opportunities to partner with quality industry suppliers like Willowglen Systems. These supplier partnerships enhance quality measurement options and communications solutions for our customers,” stated Greg Williams, Vice President of Sales for Flow Management Devices at FlowMD.

FlowMD works with customers to deliver… The Willowglen Systems Unisen™ Flow Computer meets the demanding custody transfer measurement needs by delivering superior remote meter proving, historical meter prover values, corrected API liquid flow rate and accumulation calculations, net oil computation, and optional integrated batch tracking.

New SCADACOM™ Feature

Situational Awareness of Field Environment (SAFE) – Personnel Monitoring Module

Introduction

SCADACOM™ offers the option to increase safety and operational effectiveness by enhancing situational awareness of lone and remote field workers. The new Situational Awareness of Field Environment (SAFE) personnel monitoring capability allows control center operators to track workers through a centralized system. Combined with SCADACOM’s web viewer technology, the information can also be securely accessed from outside the control center.

Operational Value

  • Improves safety and fosters a safety culture by improving central control room and situational awareness of remote field worker(s).
  • Supports governmental legislation and international standards for worker safety by minimizing hazards and providing an effective communication system for lone and remote workers.
  • Streamlines operations through real-time maintenance management and improved coordination of field resources, resulting in reduced equipment downtime and decreased operational costs.

General Description

Control Center operators are the central coordination source for field services. Field services contact the Control Center to coordinate maintenance and dispatch, and their field activity. Control Center operators can easily tag which devices are currently being serviced or scheduled to be serviced by field personnel. The graphical display of the device indicates the lone / remote worker’s current status with a color-coded icon. In case of need for emergency response or other support – the operator can escalate the worker’s status to trigger alarms and expedite support.

Status reports quickly identify all active workers, prioritized by emergency status. Pertinent information is readily available either directly on the report or by using drag and drop functionality.

Combined with the SCADACOM™ Shift Handover Accountability and Risk Reduction Process (SHARRP) and Operator Logbook modules, SAFE ensures that comprehensive situational awareness of workers in the field and current status reports are successfully communicated from one shift to the next.
